If you are an athlete or coach, you know the importance of nutrition for performance. Yet, a staggering 70% of coaches and youth athletes cannot answer a general nutrition question correctly. This is where Dawn Weatherwax’s Sports Nutrition Academy (DWSNA) steps in, helping athletes to fuel their bodies and minds effectively. The academy is committed to providing trusted and expert advice on sports nutrition, with a fun and informative approach.
Dawn Weatherwax, RD, LD, ATC, CSCS, is the driving force behind the academy. She emphasizes that nutrition is a science, and one should look for RD, RDN, or CSSD credentials when seeking specific nutrition guidance.
DWSNA recently introduced the Cheerios Team Challenge, an initiative to educate and engage athletes about nutrition. Participants are encouraged to eat Cheerios, take a picture, use the hashtag #cheeriosteamchallenge, and post it on their social media profiles tagging @sportsnutritiontogo.
The Cheerios Team Challenge goes beyond just fun. It's about understanding the science of nutrition and how it can significantly improve athletic performance. Take, for example, the success stories of athletes who have benefitted from DWSNA's programs. They've gained weight, increased their speed and velocity, improved their pop-up times, and even made it to college sports teams.
One athlete managed to grow six inches and gained 25lb, consuming an average of 3500-4000 calories per day. Another athlete lost 20lb of body fat and increased his speed by 9 mph, securing a place in a college team. Yet another gained 20lb and improved his speed, making him faster and more competitive for college sports.
